In the past when job seekers were searching for employment they usually started out by going to the classified section of their local newspaper. Things have changed. Instead of using the classifieds to collect resumes, businesses are now using the Internet. Many businesses will post job ads on their company websites. Others will use an internet job search database. It is likely that many will do both.
Here are some helpful hints for doing an electronic job search. If you already know where you want to work, the easiest thing to do would be to visit the company’s website. You can search using the company name on Google, Yahoo!,, MSN, or any other search engine that you are comfortable with. Once you have found their webpage, look for a link that says “careers” or “employment opportunities.” This is where you will find current openings with the company.
Another option is to search for a website that maintains a database of employment opportunities. For example, you might try the job search at JobBank USA or the SearchEase Job Board.
Once you are either on a job search site or a company website, you can begin searching for positions to apply for. Use a general term that describes what you would like to do, such as Programming. It is also wise to enter your ZIP code or city and state. Browse through the list of job openings. Once you find one that you are interested, submit your resume and cover letter by following the instructions on the website.
